351w valve seats
I'm back to fooling around with my seat and guide machine. I'm working with a 351w with a set of C9 heads. I put guides and hardened exhaust seats in one head. I wasn't planning to do the seats. But, as I started to cut a 3 angle seat I realized the 60 degree angle wasn't touching as the casting was undercut below the seat.

2=the valve lift. The steeper the seat angle the less the curtain area will be at lower lifts. (from say .300-.500) so the steeper seats will be needed for ports flowing well into the .800-.900-and 1.00" areas. Where is the stall point of the port?? this has to be considered as well. Usually the exh seat will have too, a steep seat.

30 deg valve seat
With a chamber as deep as you describe, I'd check the intake shrouding through the range. You're shrouded straight-long (exhaust-valve area) and likely on the sides. The tighter the chamber, the less likely you'd want to flatten the valve seat. If there is enough port to support it, it may like a 50-deg seat with a 12-degree back angle valve.

What about steeper valve & seat angles on 4 valve heads
You'd have to keep the valves in the .350"-.450" range for a long time before angles steeper than 45 degrees would pay any dividends. I've never seen any worthwhile gains (from steeper angles) on the Honda 4-valve heads when running cams with less than .550" lift.

Intake valve backcut width.
Mark the seat with dykem or a sharpie, then put the valve in and spin it until the line transfers to the valve. Then back cut the valve angle to within 0.030" of the mark. With a flow bench, grab a couple of spare valves and try a 30 and 22 on separate valves, then a 30 AND a 22 on a valve and see what you get.

Valve Seats: Will 50- or 55-degree Angles Work For Your Engine?
Racers have long known that valve-seat angles steeper than the traditional 45-degree cut will improve airflow characteristics into the cylinder and boost power. The natural response from street enthusiasts is to adapt this same strategy, so Internet forums and bench-racing debates often focus on whether a 50- or 52- or even 55-degree angle is ...
