Compared to corundum and spinel, mining activities for tourmaline in Luc Yen are less intensive. Tourmaline is often extracted by locals along the streams in Minh Tien and Nuoc Ngap (An Phu municipality). Tourmaline is mined in weathered pegmatites (Nguy, 1996). Peak mining activity occurred at An Phu between 1989 and 2000.
