The simulation results indicate that the drill bit angle has a significant influence on the rock breaking. When the angle is 40°, the rock breaking pattern is the common unidirectional splitting (Fig. 18 a). As the drill bit angle increases to a right angle, the rock breaking pattern transforms into a unique bidirectional splitting (Fig. 18 b).
